How to Access Yahoo! groups via the Web

How the Yahoo! Groups Website Works

You can access Yahoo! Groups via email and/or the Web. This works a bit like banking does...

You have various bank accounts which you can access by walking into your bank, writing cheques and receiving bank statements in the mail. These things are always there. Most of us use them at least some of the time. They are the good old standard way of doing banking. The good old standard way of participating in email groups (of which Yahoo! Groups are one example) is by email.

Most banks enable you access to your accounts via the telephone or via the Web but you have to "set it up" with the bank first. When you do this, they are the same bank accounts and transactions have the same effect. When you have set up web access to your bank, you can still only access your own accounts but you can usually see all of them on one page.

Yahoo! Groups/email groups/online groups work in the same way. You can always participate in them using email. If you set up access via the web, you can read messages in the same groups and post to them via the web as well. In the case of Yahoo! Groups, the web mode of access offers features that you can't use any other way such as the Members and Files areas.

Steps to getting access on the Web

To access a Yahoo! group on the web:

  1. you need to be joined to the group
  2. you need a Yahoo! ID
  3. the email address you are joined the group with needs to be verified so it is linked to your Yahoo! ID
  4. you need to use the Membership Wizard to find your groups

Once you have completed these steps you will be able to see your Yahoo! Group at the "My Groups" page on the Yahoo! Groups website.
