How to Filter with Various email Programmes

Setting up Filtering using Microsoft Outlook 98
The steps for setting up the filter with Outlook are:
- make sure you have set up a folder for the List
- make you have added the list address to your Contacts
- from the menu, choose Tools, Rules Wizard and use the Rules Wizard to create a new rule with these settings:
- check messages when they arrive
- check for messages sent to the List (pick this from your Contacts)
- move the message to the List's folder
Test the new filter by making a post to the list.

The steps for setting up the filter with GroupWise are:
- make sure you have set up a folder for the List
- make sure the list address has an entry in your Address Book
- from the menu, choose Tools, Rules and create a new rule with these settings:
- check for messages sent to the List
- move the message to the List's folder
Test the new filter by making a post to the list.

The steps for setting up the filter with Netscape Messenger (Communicator) are:- make sure you have set up a folder for the List
- from the menu, choose Edit, Message Filters, New
- in the "Filter Rules" dialog box, create a rule saying "the to of the message is" and specify your list address
- set up the filter to "then move to folder" and select the folder you have created
- give the filter the same name as your List and folder
- test the new filter by making a post to the list

Setting up Filtering using Microsoft Outlook Express 4.x
The steps for setting up the filter with Microsoft Outlook
Express are:
- make sure you have set up a folder for the List
- make sure you have added the list address to your Address Book
- from the menu, choose Tools, Inbox Assistant and Add
- click the "to:" button and select the list address from your Address Book
- click the "move to" button and select the folder
- click "OK"
- make sure the new rule has a tick beside it in the "inbox assistant" dialog box
- test the new rule by making a post to the list

Setting up Filtering using Eudora
The steps for setting up filtering with any version of
Eudora Pro (or Eudora Light 3.0.1) are:
- Set up a "Mailbox" for the list (note that Eudora has "Mailboxes" which are inside "Folders")
- from the "Tools" menu, select "Filters" (you should see the "Filter" window)
- click "New" and follow the instructions to complete the "Match" portion of the filter
- make sure you have the "incoming" box checked
- set the "header" to "To:"
- set the next list box to "contains"
- in the next text box, type the list address of your list (eg listname@domain)
- now specify the "action" to take when mail arrives that matches the criteria you have specified - in the "action" section, choose the action "Transfer to"
- select the Mailbox you have created for the list
- close the Window saving the changes you have made
- test your filter by making a post to the list
